a certain blue enters your soul
-Henri Matisse as seen on this refrigerator magnet 🤪
Pics from Hearst Castle last month. We battled off the winter blues with some time in California. (Yet finding solace in blues.)
I encountered these Yves Klein Blue painted animals at Vault Gallery in Cambria by Gary Steinborn and I bought the dog on the spot. I’m transfixed! And further touring around socal, we saw Purrquoise at the Getty. These bring me so much joy!
(I write this now back in NYC, frigid and missing Cali.)
Sketches and Whatnots
I’ve been keeping sane with art. Consuming mostly… but I've been dabbling about with it as well, trying new things
I generally avoid drawing people but was inspired to do so thanks to Loish’s January challenge for dynamic poses. And yes I know I should practice drawing feet and hands more than anything 🤪
Such a rich landmine of great resources online. I also took this portrait class with Gabrielle Brickey. I loved playing with a foundation for portraits. Lots to learn and I will continue to play around in this style. In an exploratory phase and excited to hone in on this and take more of her courses
and I couldn’t resist with the silly Swedish Fish sardine can….
More fun experimenting
Love Sarah Holliday’s art! I took one of her courses on color, you can see my wonky color studies below. I highly recommend taking her classes online. Additionally, she just published a children’s book that looks so adorable. Anyhow with dreary winter weather, what is more inviting than playing with fun colors?
I kept up with Lisa Bardots Making Art Everyday last month. Even on days where there were just a few minutes, made an effort for a quick sketch. Just a few sketches shown below. I really liked how my pretzel turned out ….. until I realized I got the loopy parts all wrong.
And for more fun, another sardine can. An homage to Totoro if you note the leaf hat on the fishes head!
a collection of favorite things of the moment
Ending with these snapshots of lovely moments in California… Happy February! Here’s to the year of the Horse!
