Happy New Years

Hello 2026! For several years now, I sit down on New Years Eve and I watch the 1 Second Everday video i’ve compiled through the year. Some moments from months ago seem like they happened just yesterday. How is life blurring by so fast!

All in all, happy to greet 2026. Many seeds have been planted, though I am trying not to put any pressure on January or the fact that it is a new year.

That said, we have our favorite new years traditions.

I look forward to eating osechi every new years. This time, we ordered ours from Sunrise Market in NYC which came in this cute black 3 tiered box set.

Osechi doodle! As much as i love eating osechi, I love the meaning behind each foods. I started this doodle and am compiling into a mini zine, stay tuned!

I also took a workshop with kinka NYC to make a Shimenawa to keep away evil spirits- we need good vibes for the new year! Traditionally, these would be sent to the temple after the new year to be burned, but I like mine very much so I will not be doing that.

We did send off our old ofuda and onamori to the temple for otakiage (burning ceremony) though!

I mentioned that I don’t want to put any pressure on the new year, and all of this new years motivation can be kind of stressful. However it is nice to think about the year ahead. I really feel like seeds have been planted recently

Here’s to:

  • working out at the gym (joined in December and now its my happy place, my partner says i’ve become a gym bro, ha!)

  • making a zine (see osechi above)

  • supporting cool artists on patreon

  • having a trainer, nutritionist, etc (finally investing in myself)

  • a mini drawing a day - i use Lisa Bardots prompts

  • a childrens book (concept started late 2025, my goal is to finish this year!)

Seeds planted grow to flowers, so ending with these three flower doodles I made last summer. Happy New Year!!!
