A trip out to the Southwest!
I had a blast exploring this beautiful landscape. This was my first visit out here and I ventured around Santa Fe, Taos and ABQ….finding love for dried chilis and all things turquoise.
We had one of the best meals at La Guelaguetza, walked on the Santa Fe Trail, and finally drove on Route 66. I’ve definitely left a big piece of my heart out here and can’t wait to return 😊
A highlight was meeting artists Corrine and Gary Louis, Acoma potters from whom we picked up this lovely bear below.
Also met Gregory Martin in Madrid, NM who has a lovely gallery Lost Highway. We got this print of this Doggy Diner head since I’m always homesick for SF (iykyk)
Corinne started doing “human hair pottery” (see the light scorched marks on bear.) We’ve named him Sky City Bear after his homeland. (Unfortunately did not have time to visit the Acoma Pueblo so we’ll be sure to go on our next visit!)
Gregory was a welcoming kind spirit with such beautiful artworks and artist statement. Was a pleasure stopping by his gallery by chance.
A highlight was stopping by the Earthships which is famous for being an example of sustainable off the grid living. I often fantasize of living like this but apparently living in NYC could be considered quite sustainable already! This is due to a low carbon foot print per resident thanks to dense population living and public transit. (Another reason you may not find me in the suburbs anytime soon!)
While you can’t (and shouldn’t) go into peoples Earthships, there is a model version you can tour through.
Meow Wolf! If find yourself in Santa Fe, NM…. I think you must check it out. A creepy story and portals upon portals that never seem to end. I heard they have added new rooms since I visited so I guess i’ll have to return :)
Another highlight was visiting Los Poblanos. Being a devotee of their lavender salve for years, I had this place on my radar for so long. Still pinching myself that I finally made it out!
We did not stay in the inn (it remains on my bucket list) but they let you roam the grounds and there is a spa, shop and restaurant for the casual visitor.
Can’t wait to be back!
Hope you are having a great summer so far ❤️
